3 Tips for Keeping Common Areas Clean During COVID-19

With a second wave of COVID-19 and the new strain circulating in the United States, people are taking more precautions to help prevent exposure to the virus for both them and their families.

Here are some tips for keeping areas (at home and work) clean.

1. Make A List of High Touch Areas

Your home and office have high-touch areas, and to help prevent possible infection, frequent disinfecting of these areas is needed.

Write out a list of areas in your life that you notice are being touched multiple times a day. In addition to your observations, here are a few areas that we recommend adding to your list if they’re not already there.

  • Doorknobs/handles
  • Light Switches
  • Refrigerators
  • Microwaves
  • Armchairs
  • All Bathroom Surfaces
  • Kitchen Surfaces
  • Dining Areas
  • Keyboards & Computer Mouses
  • Conference Room

When you finish writing your list, you’re ready to move onto our next tip about disinfecting and using the appropriate products.

2. Use EPA Approved Disinfecting Products

When cleaning and disinfecting the high-touch areas within your home and office, it’s essential to use an EPA approved disinfectant to kill the COVID-19 virus.

On the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s website, they share the List N: Disinfectants for Coronavirus, so check that your disinfectant product(s) are on there.

3. Keep Your Distance from People Who Are Sick

Staying away from people who are sick might seem like an obvious tip, even when we’re not in the middle of a pandemic, but more often than not, we’ve had to be by a sick coworker, family member before this all started.

If you have to be near an ill family member, make sure to take precautions to limit the possibility of you becoming sick as well.

We recommend wearing gloves, a mask, setting up a room for the person who is ill, and limiting your time going in there.
